Dubai: In a thrilling encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the India Women’s National Cricket Team defeated the Pakistan Women’s National Cricket Team by 6 wickets in Match 7 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on October 6, Sunday. Following a disappointing opening match against New Zealand, where India lost by 58 runs, the team bounced back to slightly improve their Net Run Rate (NRR).
India managed to restrict Pakistan to 105 for eight, with standout performances from off-spinner Shreyanka Patil (2/12) and Arundhati Reddy (3/19), who claimed five wickets between them. Pakistan, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, struggled throughout their innings, with Nida Dar being the top scorer with 28 runs off 34 balls.
Despite achieving the target of 106 runs off 18.5 overs, there was a lingering thought of missed opportunities for India to enhance their NRR. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored a solid 29 runs off 24 balls before leaving the field due to a neck injury.
India’s Playing XI included: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Sajana Sajeevan, Shreyanka Patil, Asha Sobhana, and Renuka Thakur Singh. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s XI comprised: Muneeba Ali (wk), Gull Feroza, Sidra Amin, Nida Dar, Aliya Riaz, Omaima Sohail, Fatima Sana (c), Tuba Hassan, Nashra Sandhu, Aroob Shah, and Sadia Iqbal.
Arundhati Reddy was named Player of the Match for her impressive bowling performance, while Pakistan, under the captaincy of Fatima Sana, showcased strong resilience after their opening match victory against Sri Lanka.
